Externship Program

MFY’s Externshp Program enables associates from private law firms to work in MFY’s housing unit on four-month rotations. Externs receive extensive supervision and training from MFY Supervising Attorneys on all aspects of litigation and carry a full caseload. A one-week overlap at the end of each rotation enables the outgoing extern to transfer all of his or her cases to the incoming extern. Currently two law firms–Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP and Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP–participate in the program.

My experience as an extern at MFY was rewarding in so many ways. Working with clients directly and advocating on their behalf in housing court on a regular basis was invaluable to my professional growth. And of course helping indigent tenants stay in their homes is a great feeling.
