CONSUMER RIGHTS PROJECT

Identity theft, credit card debt, medical debt, predatory lending, and telemarketing and financial scams pose serious problems for a growing number of Americans, especially for the elderly and disabled who live on small, fixed incomes.

MFY's Consumer Rights Project operates in tandem with MFY's ongoing projects to provide advice, counsel, education and representation to low-income individuals on a range of consumer issues, including debt, identity theft, and financial exploitation. The project prioritizes providing direct services to seniors and people with disabilities. Other areas of interest include student loan debt and access to affordable financial services for immigrants.

The Consumer Rights Project also trains social service providers on consumer issues and conducts workshops for seniors and others to help prevent financial exploitation.
